Lehigh is No Joke this Season 🦅

Lehigh's lineup is no joke this season. In fact, the Mountain Hawks may be able to hold their weight more than you think this season.

Here's a quick look. . .

Who's Returning & Leaving?

The Mountain Hawks are taking a major lump in losing 5x EIWA Champion Jordan Wood (285). He passes the torch to redshirt freshman and PIAA state champion Nathan Taylor.

So that means the Mountain Hawks are returning 6 NCAA qualifiers.

Wrestle-Offs to Watch

Max Brignola started last season and qualified for Nationals. However, Manzona Bryant showed he's a top dog at 149 lbs last season when he beat Beau Bartlett (PSU) and Max Murin (IOWA).

Meanwhile at 184, Wyoming transfer Tate Samuelson will face off against NCAA qualifier AJ Burkhart. They have never wrestled.

Off-Season Moves

The offseason was a busy time for Lehigh. . .Other than Tate Samuelson transferring from Wyoming, Michael Beard transferred from Penn State. Meanwhile, 2x bloodround finisher Josh Humphreys saddled up for another season.

Former Cornell wrestler Nahshon Garrett joined the Lehigh Valley coaching staff, and U.S. National Team member Evan Henderson joined as a volunteer assistant. All of this news is incredible for the Mountain Hawks.

2023 Lineup Preview

Here's how I expect the team to look in 2023:

  • 125. Jaret Lane
  • 133. Connor McGonagle
  • 141. Malyke Hines (NQ at 133)
  • 149. Bryant / Brignola
  • 157. Josh Humphreys (NQ)
  • 165. Brian Meyer (NQ)
  • 174. Jake Logan
  • 184. Samuelson / Burkhart
  • 197. Michael Beard (AA in '21)
  • 285. Nathan Taylor

What to Expect

Lehigh has one of the most stacked lineup in the EIWA, yes maybe even over Cornell and Penn.

Beard and Humphreys are set to make the podium, but it will take more than their prowess to have a successful season.

If 2-3 guys step up from the mid-20's rankings to top 12, then I think Lehigh can compete for #1 in the EIWA and top 20 in the NCAA.
