Princeton made history last year by having two wrestlers make the National Finals. But can they do it again? And do they stand a chance to win the EIWA?

Let's look at the 2023 lineup. . .

Who's Returning & Leaving?

This is pretty easy because every starter from last season is returning, including all 6 national qualifiers.

Of course, Quincy Monday is bumping up to 165 lbs so that makes 157 lbs a questionable weight for who will start? Perhaps 165 starter Blaine Berge bumps down, otherwise the only wrestler who has wrestled matches at 157 is junior Jack Lang.

A Tough Dual Schedule

The Tigers have a difficult schedule this season and will be tested early against Wisconsin and Michigan State in December, followed by Midlands. If Iowa attends Midlands, we could see a Spencer Lee vs Pat Glory rematch (fingers crossed).

In the new year, their toughest foes will be Oregon State, Arizona State, Cornell, UPenn, and Lehigh. Overall I don't expect Princeton to finish the season unscathed.

2023 Lineup Preview

Here's how I expect the team to look in 2023:

  • 125. Pat Glory (2nd)
  • 133. Nick Kayal
  • 141. Danny Coles
  • 149. Marshall Keller (NQ)
  • 157. Jack Lang / Blaine Berge
  • 165. Quincy Monday (2nd)
  • 174. Nate Dugan
  • 184. Travis Stefanik (NQ)
  • 197. Luke Stout (NQ)
  • 285. Matthew Cover (NQ)

What to Expect

So it's a tough dual season, but the Tigers can be competitive. I don't see them winning the EIWA against Cornell unless other talent steps up. They can't rely on Glory and Monday to score all the points.

That being said, Princeton will be tested this season and that will give them a leg up in the postseason. Monday is at the toughest weight (165), but he pulled off a finals run last season. And Glory is truly one of Spencer Lee's top threats this season.

Last year Princeton finished top 20, but this year I think they crack the top 15.
